5 San Antonio Summer Festivals You Won’t Want to Miss

Summers in San Antonio, Texas, are always exciting, and this year is no exception. When you want to experience the best the city has to offer, make sure you mark your calendars to check out some of these top festivals coming to the city this summer.

1. Texas Folklife Festival

Texas has a diverse population, and the Texas Folklife Festival gives you a chance to explore a variety of these cultures. The festival will be held on the grounds of the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Institute of Texan Cultures from June 7-9. During the event, you’ll get to enjoy authentic food, dance, music, and crafts from the various ethnic groups that moved to Texas. If you buy tickets in advance, adults are $12, children ages 6 to 12 are $5, and children 5 and under are free.

2. Taste Fest 2019

If you want to enjoy great food, music, art, and entertainment and support a good cause at the same time, make plans to check out Taste Fest 2019. This large festival will be held at Lockwood Park on June 15-16 and will benefit the Cancer Hope Network and Wounded Warriors. General admission tickets start at $12.75. During the event, you’ll be able to enjoy around 40 food trucks, over 100 vendors, a basketball tournament and slam dunk contest, and live performances by some of the hottest musicians, dancers, comedians, and theatrical acts in the city.

3. CineFestival

CineFestival is the longest-running Latino film festival in the country. Held on July 11-14 at the historic Guadalupe Theater, the festival is a great way to check out current and relevant Latino films. It will feature premiere screenings, discussions with filmmakers, free community events, a youth program showcasing San Antonio student filmmakers, free Family Day screenings, and more. Tickets vary in price depending on the event you wish to attend.

4. Frida Fest

Held at the Wonderland of the Americas on July 27-28, Frida Fest is an annual event that honors the life and artwork of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The event offers free admission and will include fashion, food, music, live performances, and a handmade artisan market that will have more than 90 vendors offering one-of-a-kind art and goods. Additionally, the documentary “Life and Times of Frida Kahlo” will be shown during the festival.

5. San Antonio VegFest 2019

Whether you’re vegan or simply curious about switching to a plant-based lifestyle, the first-ever San Antonio VegFest 2019 is worth checking out. The festival will be held at the Historic Sunset Station on August 31 and September 1, and tickets are $5 for general admission. The festival will feature cooking demonstrations, nationally recognized speakers, informative exhibits, interactive activities, yoga sessions, live music, a variety of vegan food vendors, and a catered VIP area that will have samples of vegan food from restaurants and food companies.
