How to jumpstart a Jeep Wrangler

We've all been in a situation that requires us to jumpstart our vehicles. Whether we've accidentally left our headlights on in the parking lot or waited too long to replace our vehicles' batteries, there are many ways for our batteries to die on us and potentially leave us stranded. In order to combat that, we're sharing a step-by-step guide demonstrating how to jumpstart a Jeep Wrangler.

Preparing your Jeep Wrangler

  1. Set the parking brake
  2. Automatic transmissions shift into park / manual transmissions shift into neutral
  3. Turn ignition into locked position
  4. Turn off the vehicle and all of its unnecessary processes and technologies
  5. Park helping vehicle within reach of the jumper cables and follow steps 1-4 for that vehicle

Connecting the jumper cables to the Wrangler

  1. Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive battery post of the vehicle in need
  2. Connect the second positive (red) jumper cable to the positive post of the helping vehicle's battery
  3. Connect the negative (black) end of the jumper cable to the negative post of the helping vehicle's battery.
  4. Connect the second end of the negative (black) jumper cable to grounded exposed metal in the vehicle in need away
  5. from the battery and fuel injection system
  6. Start the helping vehicle's engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes
  7. Start the engine of the vehicle in need
  8. Once the vehicle turns over and the engine starts, remove the jumper cables in reverse order
  9. Allow the vehicle in need to idle for at least 30 minutes to recharge the battery

Disconnecting the jumper cables from the Wrangler

  1. Disconnect the negative (black) end of the jumper cable from the grounded area of the vehicle in need
  2. Disconnect the other negative (black) jumper cable from the negative post of the helping vehicle
  3. Disconnect the positive (red) end of the jumper cable from the positive post of the helping vehicle
  4. Disconnect the other end of the positive (red) jumper cable from the vehicle in need
